In an upset for the ages, California native Timothy Bradley beat Manny Pacquiao Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in
Las Vegas, Nevada. Most people who watched the fight scored the match 11-1 in favor of Manny Pacquiao, but the judges felt otherwise – awarding Timothy Bradley victory by split decision.
Saturday night’s fight marked Manny Pacquiao’s first defeat since losing to Erik Morales in March of 2005. Pacquiao landed an average of 52% of his power punches his last three fights, but managed to connect on just 39% against Timothy Bradley. Thirty nine percent should have been enough as he out-landed Bradley in power punches 190-108.
Manny Pacquiao has snapped a 15-fight win streak and has fallen to a record of 54-4-2 despite the fact he out-landed Bradley in total punches 253-159 (+94). Timothy Bradley has now improved to a perfect 29-0.
All the statistical numbers seemed to lie in favor of Manny Pacquiao Saturday night. Your guess is as good as mine as to why Timothy Bradley was awarded the split decision victory.
Rumors are already hitting the mill regarding Pacquiao’s future in the ring. Will he retire? Or will he fight Floyd Mayweather Jr? Time will tell.
