Brian Cashman and the New York Yankees are at it again! The Bronx Bombers traded top catching prospect Jesus Montero and RHP Hector Noesi to the Seattle Mariners for rookie phenom Michael Pineda and young RHP Jose Campos. This trade is a monster, involving two of the top prospects of their respective organizations. But the Yankees weren’t done! They also reportedly signed free agent SP Hiroki Kuroda to a 1-year $10 million deal.
Pineda is a monster of a man at 6’7″ and 260lbs and turns just 23 next week. He averaged over a K per inning last year and struck out 3.14 batters per walk. In his rookie season with Seattle, he sported an outstanding WHIP of 1.10 and had a record of 9-10 with a weak Mariners club.
Montero wasn’t called up by the Yankees last year until the 1st of September, but was very impressive offensively in that short period. In just 61 at-bats he totaled 4 HRs, 12 RBI and 9 runs scored while batting .328. This is definitely one of the bigger trades of young talent in recent memory and should definitely keep things interesting. Both Montero and Pineda should have big fantasy seasons next year.
